Background
In October of 1965, Walt Hansgen in a Lola T70 and Hap Sharp in a Chaparral 2 staged one of the most thrilling races ever seen at Laguna Seca. The two cars swapped places numerous times and were seldom more than a few feet apart. Walt Hansgen won the battle and took the checkered flag running on 7 cylinders. Hansgen, receiving the winners trophy, marked the first major international win for the John Mecom Lola T-70 Team.
