Background
Without a doubt, A. J. Foyt is one of the most famous names in American Racing. He was capable of driving and winning in anything that had wheels on it. "That Lola was a fun car to drive and a good car to drive. The only problem with that car was that we never had time to sort out the big-block (Ford 427-cubic-inch ) engine that Ford had us using. We had just gotten our car before the 1966 Riverside race, and we had very little time to do any work on it. We only ran the Lola at Riverside and Nassau because we didn't have any time for the other races. I enjoyed sports car racin' , but our other racing commitments just didn't allow us to run any more of the Can-Am series. I would have loved to have run more of those races because those guys were real good racers.
